I read a short, powerful poem by John Tottenham called Patronage of Negation the other day.
In short, it talks about how people come across objects of creation that are inferior versions of what they could have done – if only they had tried.
As per my understanding, the mechanics behind this realization, according to the poem, is insecurity. If people had the guts to try something else – by accepting their own shortcomings or lack of abilities, they could have come up with something amazing. But, ego veils their eyes and they don’t realize that they are not awesome.
In many cases, the reason is different.
In my case, by observing others and myself, I have unequivocally realized this fact: People are lazy.
I can tell them my million dollar startup idea, the plot of the book I want to write, the movie I want to shoot – it’s cool. Nothing’s gonna happen there.
Unless, they’ve read the 48 Laws of Power.
